Alice Goes to Wonderland: The $1,000 Pinball Miracle?

For years, the “home arcade” market has been divided into two camps: affordable digital recreations (like Arcade1Up or AtGames) and the high-end, $5,000+ world of professional mechanical pinball.
Then out of nowhere in October 2024 at the Chicago Pinball Expo, Wonderland Amusements promised to bridge that gap.
Now it’s March 2026 and after spending significant time with a review unit over the last week, I can confidently say that Alice Goes to Wonderland isn’t just a new product, it’s my new favorite machine in the home arcade.
A Real Mechanical Experience at a Great Price

The standout feature here is the price-to-performance ratio. Launching around the $999 mark (with early Kickstarter backers getting an even steeper discount starting at $799), this is a fully mechanical, 80% scale pinball machine.
Unlike digital pinball which uses screens to simulate physics, this machine features a real 22mm steel ball, physical solenoids, and heavy-duty flippers. When you hit the flippers or trigger the pop bumpers, you feel that satisfying, tactile “thump” that digital tables just can’t replicate. It feels like a “real” pinball machine because it is a “real” pinball machine, just sized perfectly for a home arcade game room.
The Technical Hurdles: Bubbles vs. Reality

If you’ve been following the community coverage, you might have seen some concerns regarding “playfield bubbles.” Specifically, Kongs-R-Us documented a significant issue during a live unboxing where a graphic bubble on the playfield caused the ball to roll off-course.
However, it’s important to note that these issues aren’t universal.
In fact, my unit arrived with a perfectly level playfield, showing absolutely no signs of bulging or surface irregularities.
While the manufacturer has suggested that leveling the machine can sometimes alleviate ball-tracking issues, it appears that the playfield “lottery” is something to watch for. That said, the build quality on my unit is impressive. The cabinet is sturdy, the artwork is vibrant, and the custom PCB layout underneath is remarkably clean for a flat-packed DIY kit.
Why It’s a Game Changer for Your Arcade

Why should this machine take up a footprint in your game room over a full-sized Stern or Jersey Jack?
- Same Longevity: This isn’t a “play it for twenty minutes and forget it” toy. With a real ruleset to score chase and physical feedback, this machine offers hundreds of hours of genuine gameplay.
- The 80% Size: Full-size pinball machines are notoriously difficult to move and require massive amounts of space. At 80% scale, Alice easily fits through door frames and into tight corners while still feeling “substantial” during play.
- Accessibility: As I mentioned in my recent first impressions, real pinball is often too expensive for the average enthusiast. This machine gives you a full on flipper experience at 10% of the cost of a Stern Pro machine.
Final Thoughts

While I’m looking into upgrading the stock Plexiglas to real tempered glass and adding a custom topper to spice up the backbox, the “out of the box” experience is stellar.
Wonderland Amusements has achieved an incredible feat: making mechanical pinball accessible without stripping away the soul of the game. If you’ve been on the fence about whether a “budget” mechanical machine can hold its own against the big boys, the answer is a resounding YES! It has quickly become the centerpiece of my collection.
Pros:
- Incredible price point for a mechanical table.
- Heavy-duty flipper and bumper feel.
- Easy assembly (arrives flat-packed in two boxes).
- Built-in Wi-Fi for easy firmware updates.
Cons:
- Some community reports of playfield bubbles (though mine is perfect).
- Plexiglas playfield cover (worth upgrading to glass later).
Looking Ahead: The Heroes in a Half Shell are Next!

If the success of Alice Goes to Wonderland wasn’t enough to cement Wonderland Amusements as a major player in the home arcade market, their latest announcement certainly will.
Wonderland has officially confirmed a licensing partnership with Viacom to bring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to their mechanical pinball lineup. Slated for a 2026 release, this is a massive win for fans of the 80s and 90s era. Given how well they handled the whimsical, multi-layered theme of Wonderland, seeing what they do with the sewers of NYC and the The Foot Tower is highly anticipated.
The TMNT license is one of the most beloved in all of arcade history, and seeing it applied to this affordable, 80%-scale mechanical platform is exactly what the community has been asking for. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the pre-order details as they begin to drop!
